Wednesday, April 3rd 2019, a Southeast Asian nation by the name of Brunei has began enforcing a criminal law which allows the stoning of persons found to have had sexual intercourse with other persons of the same gender. This law also including stoning for adultery and amputation of limbs for theft. That’s correct, you’ve read it right, in 2019 a nation is getting away with murdering it’s people by the act of stoning if they are gay. So far, research has stated that this only applies to gay men, not gay women, as the law specifically states “anal sex” to be subject for immediate death by stoning.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is getting away with this by simply telling his people that Islamic law agrees with the murder of men who have sexual interactions with other men. He’s claimed he wants stronger Islamic teachings and for that, he’s enforcing dead as a punishment for something that doesn’t require a punishment. Homosexuality has illegal in Brunei for awhile now and this new law isn’t making strides towards human rights whatsoever. Brunei needs a wake up call, and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah needs to be made aware he doesn’t have global support.
The Sultan owns these hotels listed below, if you’re a traveling, do the LGBTQ Community a favor and do not stay at these hotels. Let’s send a message that gay rights are human rights.
